Living and working in Carmel, California having moved to the United States 15 yrs ago. Colin Campbells exuberance for painting began as a child when he played with all mediums. He experimented with many styles and mediums; charcoal, pastels, chalk, acrylics, oil, clay and bronze. For many years, Campbell painted coastal vistas and landscapes of the Monterey Peninsula, and exotic scenes from his travels to far away lands. At the beginning his works were abstract, Today, Campbell paints concentrating on reflecting from the sub-conscious. Campbell’s paintings are collected by individual collectors and are specified internationally by interior designers, architects and art consultants for luxury residential, hospitality and corporate projects. The artist gets his inspiration from the rich texture of nature surrounding the Carmel and Big Sur landscape. Campbell creates a rich overlay of depth by layering and building a painting in his studio overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean. His painting technique is by solely using palette knives and local objects to define and create his work. Campbell was born in Scotland and draws his inspiration from his experiences living and painting throughout; Europe, Middle East and North America. He has had many solo and group exhibitions both in the United States and Europe.
Campbell says he has always been a non conformist. Today, as an abstract painter, Campbell remains a maverick. While galleries have urged him to stay with a particular style, he refuses to be pigeon holed. “ I want the freedom to express myself in a variety of different ways,” says the artist. Apparently, his autonomous approach is working. One of the top selling Abstract artists in Carmel, Campbell’s paintings range in price from $6000 - $30,000; clients typically buy several of Campbell’s pieces at one time because his multifaceted artwork gives a home a look of continuity without the appearance of a single artist.
